filling the night with scars, the new release by our mainstay gł,ós marks the second installment on the ravage white series label. at the core of this release, gł,ós seems to build bridges between his ambient side on one hand and his thumping club music side on the other hand. especially the a-side covers the clubbier rhythmic vibe whilst the b-side conveys the more emotional vibe. like in the title track, he builds slowly and smoothly but he stays very precise in which acidic sounds come and fade. with this release, he finds a balance between the nostalgic anthem-like euphoria and a more darker and deeper narrative.

elliot sindall and oswaldo nicoletti are jäfar, a duo split between paris and london. their first record on fragil musique may be single sided, as so often with the label, but quality is not at stake. marzsia is an amazingly well produced dance trip. the broken drum line is playing around the loop, slightly messing with the heavy feet taping feel. meanwhile, the vocal and instrumental samples subtly come in and out, giving a depth and spirituality to the piece. the record comes with an engravement artwork on its b side and a debut collaboration with louise ernandez photographies for the cover artwork

lascelles perkins was one of the first stars of the jamaican music scene. studio one’s leading balladeer and one of the most underrated singers from that time. lascelles perkins sang sentimental ballads and he scored massive local hits for coxsone dodd’s studio one label. songs like “lonely moments” and “together forever” other big hits followed “the mighty organ” song as a duet with hortense ellis, alton ellis’ sister, “destiny” and a whole catalogue of standards or foreign songs as they were called. lascelles could sing any song, make it seem effortless and at the same time address it in his own unique style.

the first years, from his first album in 1976 to his 7th in the middle of the 80’s, were fuelled with an exemplary sense of creativity and a free-spirit vision. against everyones advice, cerrone was never reluctant to compose long and pure trance disco tracks, not exactly radio-friendly at the time, but which did incredibly well because they encapsulated the hedonism of the day and were far more than a trend. for instance, love in c minor and supernature have become unbeatable classics, featured regularly in the best pop, disco or dance selections, such a success would have burnt most of the others wings, whose career would have been ruined. at the beginning of the 80s, when he decided to unleash his creativity on stage, cerrone managed to rebound with you are the one studio album.
